On 5 May 2021, a presentation of the SAFETY4RAILS project was provided under the auspices of the Community of European Research and Innovation for Security (CERIS). The event was organized by the European Commission’s DG HOME under the umbrella of the Disaster Risk Societies (DRS) thematic Working Group and focused on Multihazards Risk Management, including cascading effect.
SAFETY4RAILS was among the five Horizon 2020 projects selected by DG HOME for the Workshop. The presentation was led by the Coordinator, Stephen Crabbe from Fraunhofer EMI, who gave an overview of the main objectives and scope, research outputs, and challenges for the project. An emphasis was made on the significant increase of Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) of the relevant project technologies and tools, and on the uptake of the SAFETY4RAILS results by operators. The project’s key role in identifying further security and resilience research and innovation gaps to be addressed in the future was also put forward.
The event was well-attended and brought together policy makers, industry, research centers, academia and consortia of EU projects funded under Horizon 2020. It formed part of a series of workshops organized under the CERIS, with the overarching objective of producing recommendations for a Civil Security Research Agenda.
