The National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” (NCSR “Demokritos”) is the largest multidisciplinary research center in Greece, with critical mass in expertise and infrastructure in the fields of Nanotechnology, Energy & Environment, Biosciences, Particle and Nuclear Science, Informatics and Telecommunications.
The Integrated Systems Laboratory (ISL) participates in SAFETY4RAILS which is part of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications (IIT), one of the five Institutes of NCSRD. ISL has accumulated substantial expertise and is actively involved in many areas of information technologies and telecommunications, including GIS, location-based systems & services, transportation optimization, indoor and outdoor localization systems, routing & navigation, mobile applications development & embedded systems, security systems, asset tracking, crowd modeling, 3D modeling and reconstruction, data fusion, and signal propagation & antennae design. ISL has participated in numerous EU and nationally funded research projects under FP4, FP5, FP6, FP7, H2020, and DG MARE funding frameworks involved both as WP leader and/or coordinator.

In the context of SAFETY4RAILS project, NCSRD/ISL will develop an agent-based simulator to discover vulnerabilities, estimate parameters useful for risk mitigation, and test the effectiveness of surveillance and security policies estimating the risk of possible criminal events.
